Abstract

Rapid advances in science and technology, especially in the development of information media, have changed the way we obtain, disseminate information. Information and communication technology now allows people to access information autonomously from various sources anytime and anywhere. However, this progress has also affected local culture, including the preservation of Nusantara regional songs which are an important part of the nation's cultural heritage. Regional songs, such as Minangkabau songs, have characteristics that are suitable for children, with simple melodies and moral messages that are useful for character building. Unfortunately, currently children are more familiar with foreign language songs than regional songs, thus threatening the preservation of Minangkabau regional songs and the nation's cultural identity. The absence of and dislike of Minangkabau regional songs by the younger generation can cause Minangkabau regional songs to become extinct. Minangkabau regional songs should be something to be proud of, not abandoned. Introducing regional songs through innovative media such as sound books that combine text with sound elements can be a solution to attract children's attention and preserve culture. Sound books help children recognize, understand, and appreciate regional songs in a more interactive and fun way, as well as support their motor and cognitive development
